Providing a wellness sauna experience utilizing aroma extracted from Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir thinned logs
CODE Meee launches a wellness co-creation project at Hokkaido Ballpark F Village
CODE Meee Inc. (Headquarters: Nishi-ku, Yokohama; President & CEO: Kenji Ota; hereinafter referred to as “CODE Meee”), a company that provides data-driven optimal scents to individuals and businesses, will launch a co-creation project on February 1. The project will offer a wellness sauna experience utilizing aroma upcycled from Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir thinning logs at the “tower eleven onsen & sauna” and private villas “VILLA BRAMARE” located within Hokkaido Ballpark F Village.
Background of the Project
The parent company of CODE Meee, ST Corporation, has been developing its “Clear Forest” business since 2011, which utilizes a “functional wood extract” with excellent air-purifying properties derived from Todo Fir. “Clear Forest” is a groundbreaking ingredient that improves air quality through the scent of wood by effectively using leftover lumber that would otherwise be discarded. It was developed by the Japan Kaori Research Institute of the ST Group, in collaboration with the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI), a national research and development agency. Up to now, CODE Meee has mainly used Todo Fir essential oil obtained through the Clear Forest business in its aroma space design operations.
“Wood water” (a distillate) is also produced when extracting Todo Fir essential oil. Characterized by a fresh, forest-like aroma, CODE Meee explored ways to utilize it from a circular economy perspective. The company ultimately recognized its potential as an aroma water for sauna löyly. The concept resonated with the two facilities at Hokkaido Ballpark F Village: tower eleven onsen & sauna in Kitahiroshima, Hokkaido—home to the world’s first in-stadium sauna (https://www.hkdballpark.com/activity/10/)—and VILLA BRAMARE (https://villa-bramare.com/), a private villa that places great importance on using locally sourced wood. This led to the development of a three-company co-creation project.
Project Overview and Future Plans
To begin offering this wellness sauna experience, CODE Meee will first launch a pilot aroma löyly service using Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir wood water starting February 1, 2025, at the tower eleven onsen & sauna in Hokkaido Ballpark F Village.
Starting March 2025, guests staying at the nine private villas of VILLA BRAMARE—each equipped with a private sauna—will also be able to enjoy the same aroma löyly experience using Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir wood water.
Looking ahead, CODE Meee plans to leverage its fragrance blending expertise to create an original sauna löyly aroma blend using Todo Fir essential oil obtained in the wood distillation process. The company will also consider commercializing an original room fragrance and other products that can provide new wellness experiences for guests at VILLA BRAMARE. Harnessing Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir thinning logs as part of its commitment to creating a “co-creation space” that stimulates local communities and contributes to society, Hokkaido Ballpark F Village will continue to evolve its wellness experiences.
Comments from the Three Companies
TOWER 11 Manager, Hiroyuki Nozawa
I am very grateful to be part of a project that repurposes what would have been discarded into a wellness experience for our customers—kind not only to the environment and forests but also to people. It is often said that fragrances linger in our memories, and I sincerely hope that through the scent of Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir, both this project and our facility will remain in the minds of many visitors. This initiative also serves as an opportunity for us to reflect once again on environmental issues and community contributions. Please enjoy the world’s first in-stadium natural hot spring and sauna, where you can gaze upon the field while surrounded by a forest-like aroma as you relax.
VILLA BRAMARE Manager, Yuki Yamashita
I am truly delighted to deliver a wellness sauna experience using Hokkaido-grown Todo Fir, which perfectly aligns with VILLA BRAMARE’s concept of “enjoying both stillness and movement with all five senses.” In the private saunas located in each villa, you can indulge in a special moment of refreshment enhanced by the calming natural aroma. Through this initiative, we will continue to offer even richer experiences for our guests while widely showcasing the appeal of Hokkaido.
